Gender and Power. Transformations and Resistance. Women and Men in Latin America Politics

The panel addresses the problem of gender inequalities between women and men at the top of political power from a comparative perspective in Latin America.
There are several questions that motivate the debate on the subject in the public agenda Are there social determinants in the life trajectories of women and men to access the political and public sphere? Are there differences in political careers between men and women? What factors have influenced the political careers of men and women in politics?
The panel seeks to address the contemporary situation of gender inequalities and the political careers of women and men towards hierarchical positions and authority in the political field in Argentina, Brazil, Mexico and Uruguay.
The panel is sponsored by the Research Group of Political Elites of the Latin American Association of Political Sciences and the Working Group of CLACSO Economic Elites, State and Inequality.
